Frequently asked questions
More informationGeneral information about the Education and Participation (BuT) package
What is BuT exactly?
The Education and Participation Package (BuT) is provided by the government for children and young people from low-income families. It applies to individuals under the age of 25 who are attending school or receiving vocational training.
For example, it provides support for school supplies, lunch, private tutoring, sports clubs, or school trips. Up to €1,700 per child per year can be reimbursed.
Is this a new benefit?
No, this package has been available since 2011. However, unfortunately, many families still don’t know they are eligible for it. That’s where BuT Consultancy Center steps in.
Eligibility and conditions
Who is eligible for BuT?
Is BuT only for children of unemployed parents?
No. This applies to families receiving Bürgergeld as well as those receiving Wohngeld, Kinderzuschlag, Sozialhilfe, and AsylblG benefits.
It may be helpful for low-income individuals to use the Kinderzuschlag and Wohngeld calculator to check whether they are eligible for these additional benefits
Can my young child, who is going to Kindergarten and my baby also benefit from the BuT package?
Yes, Kita, kindergarten, or daycare center (Tagesmutter) fees for children, such as lunch or field trip expenses, can be covered. You can also benefit from “participation” support. Participation support can also be paid for babies, for example, PeKIP courses or baby swimming courses.
Are refugee families eligible for the BuT package?
Individuals with a residence permit or temporary permit are also entitled to this right if they receive the AsylblG benefit.
